I had a passenger the other day who told me he recycles gasoline.
I thought to myself, “Wow! I need to get in on that! So, there’s a way, once I use up a tank of gas, I can just recycle it and keep going?”
Alas, no. His company gets calls from gas station managers when the fuel truck driver delivers his load to the wrong tank. This is particularly bad when gasoline goes into the diesel tank, but basically any wrong tank delivery is going to create a mixture of grades that the customer is not expecting and could possibly damage the vehicle. Gas stations don’t want that liability and they want to capture as much value from the purchased-but-adulterated product that they can.
So, his company sends a truck out to empty and clean the contaminated tank. The mixture goes back to the facility to be re-processed into a distinct grade that can be redeployed for use in cars and trucks.
